KS Cougars come away with a point against a strong Caradon Lions team.

KS Cougars returned to Plymouth last Wednesday to continue their so far undefeated run in the Mixed summer league and defend their position at the top of the table after a scrappy 1-0 victory the week before, with Will W-Symons scoring again.

KS came close to opening the scoring in the first few minutes and seemed to have the measure of the Lions; however Caradon pushed back hard against a KS side struggling to find their usual rhythm and the first half became a frustrating affair of attack & counterattack as the two teams slugged it out.

Man marking at the back with an extra defender made it hard for the KS front line to make their usual fluent attacking moves.

With Caradon closing players down quickly the midfield became the main battleground meaning the halves also struggled to release the ball into space for the attackers to run on to.

Wadey, Read and Squires stood resolute in defence and keeper Tony Paul blocked and cleared well on several occasions.

Both sides seemed glad to take a few moments respite at the break after a frustrating and ill tempered first half.

Captain Mikey Dennis gee’d up the team with his usual pep talk and KS returned to the pitch to push hard for the second half.

The game immediately picked up at a faster pace and both sides enjoyed end to end attacks. Both sides approached the half with a much friendlier attitude and enjoyed the competitive spirit to the full.

Unfortunately the umpiring left a lot to be desired, with several decisions having to be sportingly corrected by the players, thankfully neither side suffered as a result of the often dubious decisions.

Chloe Harvey, Nic Bowes and Sarah Cullen all had excellent games and again proved more than a match for their opposite numbers, tackling hard and not giving any quarter.

Both sides created half chances but proved to be evenly matched and the fast paced game ended with the Cougars happy to take a nil - nil draw to preserve their unbeaten record.

Not the Cougars greatest performance, but their ability to dig in and hold out for a result when up against it has always been one of their strengths.
