KSHC 2's v Torbay 1's - Saturday 9th November 2024

The KS 2’s put forth an impressive effort in a challenging match against Torbay 1’s today, ultimately falling 9-0 despite a strong performance with excellent resilience and teamwork.

The match got off to a strong start and KS 2’s were on the ball from the start, unfortunately the opposition managed to get a very quick goal within the first few minutes. Shortly after this, a penalty flick was awarded to the opposition which was skilfully saved by Sophie. Sophie’s persistence throughout the match was evident as she worked hard to keep the ball out of the goal, even doing some great dives to do so. Most goals scored came from a second or third rebound, and Sophie did not give up the fight.

Despite the challenges, our defence held up well and was complimented by the other team after the match. Mel put in an exceptional effort in defence, tirelessly running up and down the pitch while marking her players and preventing numerous opposition breakthroughs. Izzy worked hard to get the ball and clear it out of the D with her powerful hit-outs. Naomi worked hard to apply pressure to the opposition with her marking and had some well-timed tackles.

Emma was dynamic as a forward, skilfully manoeuvring through the oppositions defence and creating some great chances on goal. Liv and Maisey joined us today as youth and had some good passes. Liv ran to get the ball and made sure she was in a good position ready to seize any opportunities, Maisey worked hard to get the ball and help to create opportunities.

At halftime, the score stood at 4-0, yet the team remained determined to push forward.

The second half began with the KS 2’s moving the ball fluidly and showing good control, and Violet worked hard in the midfield to distribute the ball with short and sharp passes. Violet kept moving the ball forwards, with good manoeuvring to keep the ball away from the opposition. Nicky was our sweeper today and delivered powerful hits that advanced the ball downfield, she intercepted several key plays to help set up our midfielders and forwards. Carina matched this energy with her relentless channelling which applied pressure to the opposition and kept them to the side line. Nina’s excellent footwork and stick-handling made her a fantastic barrier to the opposition, as she worked hard to keep the ball away from the D and push through to our forwards.

Despite the result, the Cougar 2s can take pride in their relentless effort and teamwork that continued until the final whistle. Thank you to Josh for his coaching and support from the side lines and to our umpires Neil and Roger. Thank you to The Creeks for providing post-match teas, rounding off a day of fun and challenging play. Player of the match this week is Mel C.
